STORIES OF AMAZING RECOVERIES

Submitted By: Wendy Torres

I was traveling at 75 mph on the free-way and rear ended a trash truck and slid up against it until the driver side door caved in, then my car came to a stop. I was rushed to the emergency room and was found to have internal bleeding which was caused by a lacerated spleen. I was also found to have contusions to my right parietal and a base skull fracture. I was placed on a respirator and was comatose for 2 months. Upon regaining consciousness I was transferred to a hospital for rehabilitative medicine, I was given physical therapy and learned how to walk again. I was given occupational and recreational therapy to learn to do those recreational activities that I once enjoyed doing. I was given speech therapy that very much improved the slurring of my speech. I have since been married, earned 2 College degrees, went into graduate school and just recently gave birth to healthy baby boy. I would like to tell people who have suffered a brain injury that it IS possible if you TRY HARD and never lose your faith!
