Stories of Amazing Recoveries from Brain Injury

Katie Ross

I was in a car wreck on the way for a weekend in Louisville with my friends. I was not wearing a seatbelt when my friend lost control of her vehicle, flipping the car several times before landing in a ditch. I either went out the windshield or passenger side door 22 feet and landed on top of a barbed wire fence. I was in the hospital for months, trying to regain basic verbal and social skills. I talked in strange accents, swore at nurses, refused to use the bathroom. I did not remember the accident or even several months previous. They never thought I would recover, but I did! I still struggle with depression and mood instability, but I am alive and well, and try my best to focus on that daily. And I ALWAYS wear my seatbelt now!
