My name is Devina, I am 32 years old. Prior to March 1, 2005 I had really no big medical issues, only happy to having a baby, my second child. I was diagnosed with thyroid issues in my last trimester. Still no problems. March 1, 2005 I went into the hospital to have my baby Wyatt, the delivery went fine and we were discharged from the hospital on March 4, 2005. I was home for 2 days and started coughing, my back hurt, so my mother drove me to the hospital in in the a.m. By 4p.m. I was in ICU diagnosed as septic and having a blood clot in the lung. All tests came back normal. They could not figure out what was making me so ill. From the local hospital I was life flighted to O.S.U hospital in Columbus Ohio, again in ICU for no answers to any tests. My thyroid was the only thing elevated. Two weeks passed and things appeared to be getting better. I was discharged March 19 with orders to come back in 6 weeks to get my thyroid removed. I went home and had a rough night sleeping on the 19th. I continued to have some trouble breathing on the 20th. On the 21st of March, just 2 days after being discharged from the hospital I went into cardiac arrest. I was given CPR for I don't know how long, I'm not sure, but very grateful. Once again I was in ICU at OSU. It is currently June 9 and I am still at the hospital in rehabilitation. Apparently my thyroid has swollen, crushing my trachea which caused me to go into cardiac arrest. I have now been diagnosed with myoclonus which, for those who do not know is caused by lack of oxygen to the brain and it causes involuntary muscle movements. My baby is now 3 months old and I am hoping and praying I get out in time for his 2nd set of shots. If anyone knows anyone who has been diagnosed with this can you please let me know how they are doing. I can only hope and pray that I continue to get better and stronger for myself and my 2 boys. My condition started with the thyroid and ended with a brain injury. I have been a medical wonder to those who have cared for me at OSU and rehab to the point that I have given them permission to video tape my therapy in hopes it will help others who give therapy to others like myself.
