STORIES OF AMAZING RECOVERIES

Submitted By: Wendy Perneroski
Submitted On: October 16, 2006

Hi my name is Wendy Perneroski, and my son Chris who is 22 suffered a severe brain injury while riding his dirt bike on March 11, 2006 in Augusta, Georgia. while vacationing with his father. Chris was in a coma for 2 weeks, and underwent 4 surgeries to help his injury. Chris can not walk, talk, or eat on his own, he has a G-tube. He had a trech at one point as well.

He is slowly but surely getting better, but to what degree he will recover we really don't know. He is doing more and more but still has a very long road ahead of him. The doctors have said he will talk again they just can't tell you when. He does make different sounds, he his starting to move his right let alot, and his right hand, the left side of Chris is slower, since his injury was on his right side of his brain. He knows everything that is going on around him, and he answers us by blinking his eyes, once for no, and twice for yes. He smiles alot, which is good, he really hasnt shown any frustration or anger at this point.

It has been very hard on us as a family, but we have not left Chris's side since he got hurt, someone has been with him 24/7. They say family around makes a big difference in their recovery, and I truly believe that. Chris is still hospitalized, but we take him home every weekend, being at home in his own bed and his own surroundings is very good for him. If anyone has a story similar to Chris's I would love to hear from you. Believe in prayer, because it truly works!!
