STORIES OF AMAZING RECOVERIES
Submitted By: Kristy Kolonsky
Hi, My name is Kristy. I'm 22. When I was 3 years old I was diagnosed with Lukemia, which is cancer in the blood. I went
through chemotherapy and radiation. When I was about 14 years old, I started to fail my classes and went back to the hospital
for my yearly cancer checks.
As I explained how I was doing through the past year. Failing classes came up. Come to find out they ran blood tests and a
brain scan, and diagnosed me with tramatic brain injury. I didn't even know what was going on! They asked me simple questions
like my ABC's & math problems and I got everything wrong! I was scared. They sat my parents & I down and explained the
medicine I was on when I was a child had long term effects of damaging the brain and they didn't know it.
No, I didn't sue or press charges or anything like that. I simply wasn't sure what to do. Now that I'm older, I now experience
depression and anxiety/panic disorder. Which to my understanding is common.
Thank you for reading my story.
