Depression Is a Common Long-Term or Even Lifetime Problem That Often Follows Traumatic Brain Injury

Earlier studies have shown that persons with traumatic brain injury induced depression are more difficult to treat than those with other types of depression. A couple of studies published in the archives of general psychiatry show promise in treating 18 chronically depressed men and women with a drug Ketamine which is not yet approved for depression and is commonly used as an animal tranquilizer. It is doubtful Ketamine will be able to be prescribed for depression for at least a year or two but please consult your treating physician.
